anora, a classic "small town" of 1200 people, is nestled between the scenic rolling hills of the Raccoon River Valley and the flatlands of prime Iowa farmland in eastern Guthrie County. Created by the last glacial layer, called the Wisconsonian, over 12,000 years ago, the beautiful landscape has something to offer everyone.
Feel like going for a drive? Head south or west and you will be traveling the Western Skies Scenic Byway. Experience rolling meadows, boundless horizons, and wide-open roads while traveling along Highway 44 through Guthrie County.
Feel like fishing? Head to the Middle Raccoon River for excellent fishing. Fish commonly caught at Lenon Mill Park, on the Middle Raccoon, include Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Croppie, Bluegill, Walleye, Channel Catfish and an occassional Northern Pike. Don't forget to bring your canoe. With several access ramps located along the Middle Raccoon, you can experience the beauty of the river - one of only 5 protected waterways in Iowa.
Feel like biking, roller blading, or just taking a nice walk? Head to the Raccoon River Valley Recreational Trail. The Raccoon River Valley Trail is a 56-mile multi-use trail on the former Milwaukee RR line. Bring along your binoculars for some spectacular bird watching, too.

anora is a great place to visit, but an even greater place to live. Lake Panorama, Iowa's largest and finest private-lake development, provides a summer resort atmosphere and is the neighbor to the City of Panora. The historic square in downtown Panora is the home of the new Panora Public Library. The Panorama School District is headquartered here, with all the students from the five communities in the system attending at the school complex on the west side of town.
Commuting is a breeze with the Des Moines-metropolitan area just 45 minutes down the road. The new Little Panther Daycare and daycare homes are available for those who need to have someone to watch their children.
A variety of fine businesses make many services and products available to local residents and out-of-town visitors. Spiritual needs can be met at any of the eight churches that serve the community. Medical care is local and the Guthrie County Hospital is just seven miles away in Guthrie Center, Iowa.
And what is a small town if it doesn't have its own festival? Panorama Days takes place the first weekend of every August. This three-day event provides a parade, daily entertainment, food, evening dances, a water-ski show, fireworks, and much more.
So, whether you're walking, biking, canoeing, driving, or even flying (the Guthrie County Regional Airport is just three miles west of the city), come on over to Panora! You'll be glad you did...and just maybe, you'll want to stay a while. See you soon!

Lenon Mill Park and Wildlife Area
Nestled by the banks of the Middle Raccoon River you'll find the original site of the old Lenon Mill that was built in 1863. First built as a woolen mill but changed to a flour mill in 1877. After years of idleness, the mill was finally torn down in 1959. This charming park of 1236-acres is available for camping (including an RV hook-up, water, bathrooms, and a shelter house) and fishing, and has an access for canoes on the 'Coon River.
Michael Mills Memorial Park
Michael Mills was the first Iowa soldier killed in Desert Storm, 1993. Michael was a graduate of Panora-Linden High School. The spacious memorial park includes a playground, water fountain, shelter and picnic benches, sand volleyball, two ball fields, and a soccer field.
Heritage Park
This small, but eye-catching, park is a nice resting spot along the Raccoon River Valley Trail. The park is located where the Panora Depot once sat along the tracks and includes a water fountain, shelter, and picnic benches.
