Guthrie County Historical Village

HISTORY: The first meeting of the Guthrie County Genealogical Society was held on 13 November 1978. Upon invitation we established a genealogical section in the Jamaica Public Library where we continue to hold meetings and house our growing collection of genealogical materials. We ended the charter year with 82 members.

Our membership continues to grow with numerous states represented. For two consecutive years, our Society received the Iowa Genealogical Society Outstanding Chapter Award. Many volunteers have donated their time and talents to expand the services and resources of the Society. Their contributions have made us an outstanding organization.
