Panora P.E.T.s

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Kristine Jorgensen, the founder of P.E.T.S., is the museum curator for the Guthrie County Historical Village.  After moving back to her hometown of Panora in 2002, Kristine started P.E.T.S. to humanely help control the stray and feral cat population in the town.  While she has an MA in Women’s Studies and her passion is women’s history, she has found that she “can’t quit the cat thing.”  Kristine is the “cat lady,” feral cat trapper, grant writer, webmaster, foster care provider, and, oh yeah, president of P.E.T.S.  Kristine has a herd of cats, including two feral cats that live in her house and the ever-so-famous Roger the Cat, and a rescue Eskie named Ethel.

Sue Holbrook is a local hair stylist, avid gardener, and doll enthusiast.  We can’t forget to mention that she has many wonderful house cats, too!  Sue became acquainted with P.E.T.S. because she was feeding a feral cat colony in Panora.  Her colony is one of the registered colonies with the City of Panora.  She is a foster care provider and the vice president of P.E.T.S.  As mentioned, Sue has a herd of housecats, a pond full of fish, and a Bassett Hound named Annie.

Tina Nepstad-Thornberry is currently pursuing her PhD in Anthropology from the University of Colorado and how she manages to find time to help us we cannot figure out.  She and her family relocated to Panora in 2004 and they immediately adopted two dogs and three cats from Kristine.  Thus, the madness began and Tina found herself becoming one of P.E.T.S.’s biggest supporters.  Tina is the “dog whisperer,” foster care program coordinator, foster care provider, grant writer, and secretary/treasurer of P.E.T.S.  Tina has three cats—Macaroni, Cheese, and Coltrane—and four dogs—Cricket, Skye, Karma, and Sallie.

Cindy Zieser recently relocated back to Iowa and opened Pretty Paws Pet Grooming in Guthrie Center, Iowa.  Cindy is an artist when it comes to dog grooming and because of her expertise, she has transformed dogs that were terribly matted and neglected into beautiful dogs that were show-quality — which greatly helps us find them homes.  Cindy is a foster care provider, special events volunteers, and dog groomer extraordinaire.  When Cindy isn’t busy grooming dogs or assisting our dogs in need, she is busy caring for her foster animals and her own mini zoo, which includes 2 ferrets, a rat, a guinea pig, a cockatiel, and two dogs—Rascal the Rat Terrier and Ziggy the Yorkie.

Dr. Mary Mincer Hansen is the former Director of the Iowa Department of Public Health and is currently President of Hansen Health Consultation and  a faculty member at Des Moines University's Department of Global Health.  Mary has always loved animals and has had a passion for ensuring that all animals both wild and domestic are treated with love and respect.  She is honored to be a member of Panora P.E.T.S. since it allows her to live her passion.  Mary has a dog named Ariel.

Joeleen Durbin is a child-care provider at a daycare in Perry, Iowa.  When Joeleen isn’t working with children, she is working with her foster cats or helping Kristine trap the feral cats for the spay/neuter clinics.  Joeleen is a foster care provider for cats, special events volunteer, and a “you tell me what needs to be done and I’ll do it” kind of gal.  Joeleen has two cats named Brigette and Brian (aka Bri-Bri).

Kjella Piper, after living in Chicago for 20 years, returned to Iowa in 1992.  She and her husband, Doug, moved to Panora/Lake Panorama in 2003 and immediately started helping the numerous stray dogs and cats found at the Lake by assisting the local Lake Security team.  Kjella is a foster care provider for dogs, specializing in larger dogs,  and a special events volunteer.  Kjella has four dogs.
